These days it’s a much more tricky prospect, what to buy for the person at the office who is retiring. In the old days it was a simple choice, a gold mantelpiece clock and the occupation was done. But is a carriage clock still an adequate for the purpose gift as we arrive in 2010?

Well we think a clock is still unquestionably a good choice, but it doesn’t have to be a boring choice any more - the gift you give says as much in regards to you as the giver as it does regarding the recipient. We’ve put together a list of what we think are outstanding selections for those looking forward to lying in after 8.30am, hanging around in their dressing gown until after 10am and in general spending the time doing what they like, because they’ve earned it.

The clock choice - still a classic and safe bet, but for something a bit particular why not undertake a 24ct gold golf buggy clock - for those retiring that you know will be looking to play the odd round of golf or two - the 24ct gold plating makes it a quality gift too and will look great on any mantle piece or home office desk.

A electric guitar on metal stand, in chrome. Retirement is the perfective time to pick up a new sideline and a good deal of persons learn to play an instrument when they at last have the time.

24ct two tone racing bike clock - if they are planning on hitting the road and reclaiming their youth, then this clock will be a great celebration of that.

The classic choice is still a French design carriage clock, we like the David Peterson, Anglais 8 day mechanical carriage clock. It has a lovely solid brass motion but comes with 24ct gold plated and on a shock shelter platform, so the quality is outstanding.

3Not bad, Chain thin
By Impressed
I purchased this for my daughter, the wings are fantastic, the chain is incredibly flimsy. She is 10 years old, I anticipate the chain breaking very quickly but I do like the pendant.

5Delicate and beautiful
By lovetoread
I bought this on a whim during cyber Monday. I was skeptical when placing order because of the price, there was no review about it and worried that it could be a cheap fragile piece. But I have no regrets. The product is sturdy and not flimsy at all. The details on the wings are delicate and beautiful. It’s design is unique. Love the brass color. I’m glad I got it.

1Sadly Not What I Expected
By MzFrugal
The picture shows a gold tone chain - it came with a flimsy cheap silver chain. I was hoping to give as gifts to my nieces, but would need to buy another chain. I too am disappointed. I wasn’t concerned over the “diamond accent,” but the chain was just wrong.
