I am in love. The kind of love that arrives only once in a lifetime. First, baby, puppy, highschoolsweetheart kind of love. The kind of love not without problems and heartache and mistakes, but fresh and raw and strong beyond worlds and words... Except, I have high hopes that it will last longer than adolescence. First love doesn't always end. Sometimes it lives forever. Because in a world of billions and gadzillions of people, I have already met the one person who makes me complete by the ripe old age of eighteen.

[You don't believe me, do you? ;-)]

I grew up reading Point Romance novels and listening to Whitney Houston, just waiting and hoping for this wonderful, life-changing thing to turn up on my doorstep and whip me into a heart-shaped frenzy... and finally, finally, it has. And her name is Emma.

We met in December 2000, when we both turned up to watch our mutual friend Ruth singing songs from musicals in a concert.  I was the spunky new lesbian friend from college (newly out of the closet and exploring an exciting rainbow-coloured Universe). Em was the dykey best mate from Good Old Times. We were pushed together, inevitably, despite being polar opposites in every sense of the world [girly, tomboy; arty, sporty; etc.] It was a match made in Heaven. I was wearing silly clothes and couldn't stop giggling. She cracked a joke which I didn't hear, and assumed I was ignoring her due to poor attempts at humour. All the same, we swapped numbers and began texting frantically -- all hours of the day -- in the bath, in bed, during school lessons... Less than a week later, we met for our "visually-impaired" first date, to the cinema to watch (of all things) Charlie's Angels... (hehe). We rolled Malteasers down the aisle and had a very lovely, very passionate first kiss in a dark, secluded car park. Emma had never kissed a girl before and was terrified, but I held her and made her feel relaxed, and loved... [It was the best kiss I've ever had.]

Eighteen months later and we're still here. Through break ups and parental rows, through seeing-bans and jealousy and everything the world has to throw at people in love -- and I'm happier than ever before. (I'm pretty sure she is, too.) I think we have finally reached that place of stability and 100% trust. A little steadier, a little more permanent... Three weeks after our first meeting, we got engaged. It was rash and naive, but turned out to be one of the best things that has ever happened to me. And for my eighteenth birthday, Em bought me a diamond engagement ring! Isn't it pretty? »

Our plans for the future include getting a house or a flat together in Cardiff, and hopefully getting blessed -- but that's just a pipe dream at the moment. Em is beginning her 2-year training to join the police force soon (rawr, kinky uniform), and I need to finalize what I plan to spend the rest of my life doing (besides loving Em of course!). I'd love for us to live together, though. It can be so tough being apart from her, even though we only live a bus ride apart! We've already had so many great memories together. Things we've done, and shared. A lot of the very best times were spent just cuddling up in bed, eating pizza and kissing and watching movies :-)
